The Story of the Leg

The reason I haven’t blogged in a while is not due to my leg, which I will get to in just a second, but the mere fact that I am lazy and can’t think of anything really important to write. So, now I have something to write about: the story about my leg.

Dearest mother was invited to Block Island for a friend’s wedding. I, of course, wanted to tag along, considering my love for exploration and discovery. Right away we realized that bikes and mopeds were offered to rent as a mode of transportation. Not having a car made me immediately get the amazing idea if renting a scooter for the day and roaming the beaches and hills. The very next day, as my mother attended the beautiful ceremony uniting two lovebirds, I traveled through beautiful hills covered in wild flowers and rich grassy land on my newly rented, 2-seater, baby blue moped. Aside from the foolish color and heavy body, I really liked that bike. I ended up riding around for about 2 hours and thought it would be a good idea to get some lunch. One veggie burger and chain of Nat Sherman’s, I was on my merry way to go back to the hotel and smoke my afternoon away. I went to call my mom to let her know what I was up to and let her know I was on my way back, but it turns out that my phone service was cut off. I was pissed, but the fun of the high-speed motor bike and the glistening beaches distracted me from my cares. On the way back, I was full and happy, ready to relax, until suddenly, a huge patch of sand and gravel decided that I would be its next victim. I lost control of the wheel and slammed into the curb going 30 mph. My right leg got caught in between the bike and the sidewalk and dragged for about 4-5 feet, then after I was flipped a couple of times and my head slammed against the pavement I got right up. I stood there for a few seconds, taking in what happened and that is when I looked down and my leg to see it covered in blood and chunks of skin. Wearing flip-flops and a dress was the worst idea. My right foot was demolished. Sections of skin are gone in over four large areas, bone was showing, blood gushed. It was a horrible scene. My knee was gone. The skin was non-existent. At least I found a trail of some skin and blood a few feet away so it didn’t just disappear. That would be weird. After I returned my left boob to her proper place, convinced myself I wasn’t dead, told the lovely old couple who watched me as I replaced by boob I was fine, I got back on that horrible devil bike and went on home. Blood dripped, my arms shook, the strap on my shoe was scrapping the raw skin on my foot. I was a mess. A psychotic mess. I felt no pain, though. Luckily. I couldn’t call my mom and tell her of my mutilated limb and it was getting close to when I had to return that fucking machine. To make a long story short, I finally contacted my mom at the wedding via collect calls from the hotel room and I was somewhat situated and the monster was returned.

My recovery has been anything but nice. I obtained a secondary infection which caused the skin all up and down my leg to feel as though it would melt off and had to make 2 emergency room visits. After a week of pure agony I went to the doc and he got me all situated. All is well now. Except I am unable to wear any type if shoe and I can’t sleep with covers on. Someday soon this will all just go away and that death bike will be put to rest. End.

Free Marc Emery

I am truly outraged at the extradition of Marc Emery. This harmless, Canadian man is charged under American law for the selling of Marijuana seeds. He has been sentenced 5 years in American prison. In Canada (again, where Marc is from) he would have to pay a $200 fine. I don’t care what anyone says, Marc Emery has no reason to be jailed for 5 years in America. We should be spending the money and jail space for the real criminals. What about the people buying fire arms, or the hard-core drug users who can cause serious injury to American citizens? There is (should be) no question that Marc should be charged under Canadian laws, considering his citizenship. I hate to call myself an American citizen if this is how the government is going to work. It’s bad enough already, so why make people hate it more?

I have already donated money and have gotten the word out. Everyone must make others aware of America’s wrongdoing. This is not so much of a situation regarding legalization of marijuana but the rights of Canadian and American citizens and the proper “punishment” of those who break the law.

As many may already know, the next holiday worth celebrating is 4/20. A holiday that is best described as the most inspirational and heartwarming day of the year, just following Christmas and Flag Day. In preparation of this friendly, human-uniting day, I have [struggled] to remain weed free for a few days, let’s say around 4, as to lower my tolerance.

I’m sure that this day will not be so unlike the other days I spend “celebrating”. Just sit in my car listening to Warren G and Snoop and all those great dudes, driving from one parking lot to the next stopping to get Slushies and other delectable beverages. The main difference in this adventure is that it is completely dedicated to Jack Herer, who passed away this past Thursday. God, I’ll miss that man. Not that I knew him personally or anything, but he did so much for the marijuana community, dedicating his life to legalization. He also inspired Marc Emery and many others who are doing all they can to make our lives better.

So, to Jack Herer and all the other amazing people who are fighting for what’s right, this 4/20 is dedicated to you!!!!

Promises, Promises: Review

Last Tuesday (3/29) I had the delightful opportunity to see Promises, Promises in its second preview on Broadway. Let me use the “compliment sandwich” for this one. And here we go:

The talent was great! (I’m going to wait to talk about Kristin Chenoweth until the end.) Sean Hayes is so lovable. He is in a role very different from his most well-known character, Jack, from Will and Grace, however, some tiny little elements shift over. He is sweet, gentle and just all around fun person to watch. His comedic timing is true perfection. Hayes shines throughout the whole show, especially in the hilarious second act (he gets believably drunk, makes out with an owl-coat-wearing-widowed bar goer and viciously makes out with her after jumping right into her arms). His voice isn’t so strong, however, he is so genuine and wonderful throughout the show.

The show itself needed some work. Some larger dance number seemed a bit rusty and under rehearsed. There was potential for all of them to be comparable to show stoppers, however, there were just so many that the show dragged. Running at 3 hours, it is imperative that things move quickly and lightly. When having the full cast dance to long songs that help the plot in no way, then one has no choice but to drown some out. The things that have to improve in order for it to live through the ever-changing Broadway are pace, sharpness and length.

Now, on to Ms. Kristin Chenoweth. I adore her soooo much. She has been an inspiration to me for so many years and I have seen a LOT of what she has done. In Promises she offers her cute sense of humor and sweet disposition, and unlike many of her other roles, she takes on a belter. She also tackles a dance number, and even with poor choreography, shines as a dancer. Kristin and Sean share such a great chemistry together. Then again, Kristin seems to have that often with her other co-stars. She gave a great performance. Not one that will be remembered as the absolute best, but a very good one.

If you plan on going to see Promises, Promises (which I highly advise you should) I would suggest waiting until it actually opens, so that they can add/cut things. Polishing is in order, but I am sure it will attract enough audience to last a while.

Swaggers

By using the word “swagger” I am not talking about the way that Soulja Boy uses it. I am using it as a word to describe a person. More like a group of people. A very large group of ignorant sons-of-bitches who many people in the world may not be totally crazy about. I was walking down the hall of my prison-like high school (which takes people’s dreams and crushes them like they were nothing but little ants and they were the 7 year old with a magnifying glass…. but I digress…) and passed many people, mostly boys, who had this awkwardly large sense of self-confidence. Now, there is nothing hotter than a guy who is hot, knows it, but doesn’t let it get to his head, however, when you are unattractive, have a horrible personality, are a bitch (and not in the good way) and have this air of confidence floating around you, there are no other reactions I might have then discussed and dislike. I call these people “swaggers”. Because that is what they are. There is “swag” which should come naturally in order for it to truly exist within someone, there is “swagger” which is what “it” is, then there are “swaggers” which are the mother fuckers described in the above.

And that’s what I think.
